Hi Ernie,
I am ready to install a 3-board shiplapped back into a display cabinet. I was going to put a nail in the center of the top and bottom of each of the boards to affix them to the rabbet in the back of the carcase but recently read that some use screws to accomplish this task. I was wondering if you would, in a similar situation, use nails or screws. Thanks for your input, and best wishes,
JDS

My choice, because it was used traditionally, would be the nail. A wire nail of appropriate diameter and length through the center of each board. I would also nail into any partitions dividing the cabinet. A screw would also do the job fine, however. One thing going for the wire nail is that it has a bit of give if a damp spell cause all the boards to swell to maximum and one needed to move a bit.
Regards,
Ernie
