Selling a Diefenbach workbench - not sure what to ask for it.

larsoncellos's picture

10 years ago, I paid about $3000 for a Diefenbach workbench, the premiere workbench made in Germany.  I see online that they are no longer in business.  Although I love it, I am thinking about selling it due to space limitations in my shop.  What do you think it is worth today?  What should I ask for it?  It looks like the one in this photo attached.

Thanks for your note, John.  I still have it for now.  But we may be downsizing to a smaller workshop and think I may need to part with it.

Is there any possible way (post #171242, reply #12 of 21)

Is there any possible way that you could post another picture of the side and maybe the back? I would like to make sure that everything is in perfect order before I would actually make an offer. I have to admit though, the way it looks right now it looks pristine!

Hi,

Is your workbench still for sale?  I just came across the post and noticed that you're in NE Connecticut.  I'm not too far from there, so a pickup is a distinct possibility.

Diefenbach woodworker bench (post #171242, reply #18 of 21)

I have a Diefenbach GB series woodworker bench that I purchased  in 1996. Due to a lack of shopspace, at that time, it was stored and I never used it. It was made in Germany of Beech and shipped to America (Colorado) where I purchased it from Gabby. It has just been assembled and is in pristine/new condition. The dimensions are 80"L x 24" D, it has one drawer and a large tilt out compartment for storing hand tools. It also has a set of factory 'brass dogs' and vises at both ends. It truly is 'the Cadillac of woodworker benchs from earlier days', but I am now 'putting down' my woodworking after 50 years and this bench needs a good home where it will be appreciated for its quality and durability. It's in Port Townsend, Wa. and while it can be partially disassembled, delivery by me is not an option.

Just a brief 'follow-up' to my posting above;

I posted this bench on Craigslist in Seattle and on the Olympic Peninsula after mentioning it here. In the next 4 days, I had 17 responses that I considered were more than 'looky-loos' or just curious. The bench has now gone to a new 'forever home' with a professional cabinet maker in Port Angeles, Wa. My asking price was $1300, which was what I paid for this bench in 1996 plus the cost of freight from the importer in Colorado. My greatest desire was that the bench be used by someone who would appreciate its quality.
