First of all. Lets get the Furniture Mfg's in the (WEST) USA/Canada cranked up again. I'll sit in rustic log furniture before I buy any Chinese "antiques"
Just my personal feelings.

Wondering (post #168896, reply #2 of 4)
I am wondering why Mr. Hsu posted on Knots. Is it the ratio between the gadgets folks here buy and what they (we) are actually able to craft.? Efficient marketing is typically done in places where the ability to buy is more prevalent than the ability to craft.

I got to tell you guy's , I went to an Ikea store for the first time yesterday ,,,
I saw no items made in the USA except maybe the hot dogs and popcorn .
We used to have pier one imports or some such thing and it was a novelty but now it is very different .
I suppose as long as we keep buying it they will sell it .

There actually is some IKEA (post #168896, reply #4 of 4)
There actually is some IKEA furniture made in the USA.
I have to say I own some, albeit not the USA kind.. I've bought some solid wood (pine'ish) that were cheaper than I could have bought construction grade lumber. With a bit of glue on some of the dowels, and a few clamps to assist the assemply hardware pull it together I've got units that are VERY solid. There is other stuff that is pretty much junk, but with the virtue of being priced that way.
By the way, my bet is if the guy had some real, quality Chinese antique furniture the best market these days might well be in China.
Test your finish on scrap, FIRST, or risk having to scrap your finish.
