I installed the Modine Hot Dawg in my shop last fall. It works great. The HDS model is the one with separated combustion air, which is the one I have. It draws air from outside the shop.
I would buy this heater again.

Thanks Randy - I felt pretty good about the choice just based on the literature but it is nice to have personal experiences. What size did you get? Size of shop? Thanks Again --- Woodhors

I have the HDS 45 and my shop is approx 20' x 32', very well insulated. The heater keeps it at a constant temperature. If anything, it is probably bigger than I need.
I paid $892 for the heater, and $167 for the concentric vent kit. The vent kit allowed me to run only one pipe to the outside. I purchased it online from http://store.h-mac.com/indoorgasheat.html. They also offer free shipping.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Randy.

rshelly,
Have you figured out how much your HDS 45 costs to operate
each month or heating season? I'm stongly considering one for
my 24 x 36 shop and any info would help.

I just installed this unit in about the same sized space I couldn't be happier with it.

I have been contemplating the same purchase - Right now I am using small electric heaters which are okay I guess... With this ringing endorsement I think it's a go!

I don't have anywhere near the budget for a Hot Dawg and my shop is an insulated & sheetrocked 2 1/2 car garage. I'm concerned about dust & combustion. Apologize if this question has been asked before but it's cold & damp out in my garage and I'm looking at not only being uncomfortable but my tools potentially rusting. Suggestions? Thanks all,
Sherry E.

Sorry, I don't know. It is on the same meter with the house so I haven't done a comparison.
