Pit Bulls are dangerous!
My oldest grandbaby woman came back to live at my house while she goes to a local art college.
She never mentioned that she was bringing a new pit bull puppy I had to care for while she was working and at school...
That damn little puppy ran threw my legs and I fell down the stairs and broke my arm and wrist! Yes the same arm I mostly used before the fall!
I screamed some obscenity at the puppy and he came back and sat beside me as I gathered my thoughts and wondered where I left my car keys so I could drive myself to the hospital...
What a day I had early this week. I think I am no longer mad at the puppy? But not really sure about that.. He seems to like to be with me at all times my grandaughter is away so I guess I have to put up with him.. He will be neutered soon as the Vet will allow! . I never knew that a pitbull was so vocal! He barks at any strange noise and attacks the TV if he hears a dog bark on it?
I can take him to the local dog park and he tries to dominate the other dogs sometimes, but not always. He has been bitten several times by the older dogs and he now knows not to mess with older dogs... I think? He gets along well with my old, very old, yellow Lab.. Once my Lab bit him for messing with him too much.
I guess I have to get a book on caring for pitbulls?
Have a great day.. Life is wonderful even if you are having a bad day!

I don't know too much about (post #155496, reply #1 of 10)
I don't know too much about pit bulls, but with any dog, and particularly breeds with bad reps, it is IMPORTANT for them to get out and meet people, get petted by strangers, etc. This socialization can prevent lots of problems. Even more important than the socialization with other dogs, though that is important too.
Test your finish on scrap, FIRST, or risk having to scrap your finish.

Mend quickly - feel better -
I have a pit - she is 11 years old - sweetest dog you ever saw.
They are much nicer than what people know about them who never owned one.
All puppies are trouble in the beginning - give him time to learn what is right and wrong

SA
I mend well for some reason .. (post #155496, reply #5 of 10)
I mend well for some reason .. But not as well as I did at 8 years old or even 30 years old... Takes me a week or month longer depending what happened from I did as a child... And I smoke and drink much more that I should...
I took the new puppy out for a walk a few moments ago.. (I left the puter on) He went nuts! I think that the plastic cone brought in smells from everywhere he hever knew existed... !!!
He was hard to control! I think I will love this puppy for some reason.. Maybe because he is a nut like I am?
Have a great day.. Life is wonderful even if you are having a bad day!
Broken arm - Bad dog (post #155496, reply #3 of 10)
Will,
I am sorry to hear about you hand and arm "Pain hurts!" I hope you heal soon.
You say the pup has been bitten by 'older dogs' and has learned how to stay away from them. Have you tried biting the pup when he misbehaves?

Have you tried biting the pup when he misbehaves? (post #155496, reply #4 of 10)
Have you tried biting the pup when he misbehaves?.. No.. I am a push-over with most animals.. Not so with many 'out of line' humans I have had to deal with in life..
I was just funning about it.. Just happened to be a puppy Pitbull... It was just something that happened. It had nothing to do with the breed of the dog. Just a crazy puppy (all are in different degrees) that tried to beat me down the stairs and I lost my balance....
Yesterday, I found out from the doctor that I (may) need a 'pin' in my wrist.. He said I had to heal a bit before he would know for sure.. I broke the same wrist as a small child jumping off a roof playing some stupid game with my brother.. My right wrist and I am right handed. It has bothered me (off and on) for many, many years!
It was NOT the puppies fault.. I was in his way!
I have had many different cats and dogs in my life. Only one was dangerous and attacked my middle daughter for a reason I never found out about untill my daughter told me exactally what had happened. She was very young at the time. I found out what really happened when she was about 25 years old.. I had the dog put down at the time.. It was sort of her fault.. Or maybe all her fault. He was a very large German Shepard and I later learned she was on the toilet and he 'sniffed on her'.. I will leave it at that. She bit into his ear and the dog bit back. One bite we think. She almost lost one eye and half of her face was hanging off.
She healed well and is very pretty with only a hint of scars today.. She had a woman plastic suregon that specialized with children. What a wonderful woman that made my sweetheart pretty again....
Those operations cost me about what I had to pay for her Masters in Education. My insurance payed for most of the costs of the operations.
She still likes little dogs but is still very afraid of BIG ones to this day. She loves my BIG, FAT Yellow Lab?
Have a great day.. Life is wonderful even if you are having a bad day!

Wow! That's a scary story about your daughter. Glad it all turned out OK.
Plastic surgeons work miracles.

I never asked for, at (post #155496, reply #7 of 10)
I never asked for, at first, but a woman doctor would be best for a little girl... They know how to talk to each other.. I am sure the first doctor in the ER was nice but he seemed a bit 'gruff' and impatient.. My wife just asked for a woman doctor and we had to wait untill she came. About one hour.. The male doctor took very good care of my daughter and I mean nothing bad about him.. Just a bit crude for a little girl to understand what she would have to put up with... The lady doctor told me to put my daughter onto a board that had a 'wrap of cloth' that they tied around her to keep her from moving... The woman doctor asked me to do it so my daughter did not associate (To connect in the mind or imagination) her to being putting her into the restraining device.
I was the BAD GUY! I now think it was a good idea.. She was mad at me and not the doctor that 'helped her' (As she remembers).. She does remember that I tied her down.. She remembers little else about her ordeal except what I did to her at the hospital...
I can live with that... Maybe someday I will tell her what really happened but I have never found a reason to do so. My daughter still loves me anyway... So I may never reveal it to her. What difference would it make? Besides.. her mother died long ago and I have nobody to back up my side of what really happened and why...
Have a great day.. Life is wonderful even if you are having a bad day!
Sorry about your (post #155496, reply #8 of 10)
Sorry about your accident.
German Shepherds are dangerous also. Last fall while visiting our daughter in Minnesota my wife took their(almost grown) pup out for a walk. They said it weighed eighty pounds but it must have a ton of muscle. Any way the wife didn't have sense to let go of it. Any way after three days in the hospital (forty some thousand dollars) and a new titaniam elbow she felt much better. The good news is that she has done remarkably well considering the injury. She isn't supposed to lift more than five or ten pounds. I think she did that on purpose so she wouldn't have to help me lift things around the house or shop.
While in the apartment business, one tenant had a pit bull. That thing was so timid it was afraid of its's own shadow. I had heard such violent things about the breed, I was surprised.

That is a very danderous dog in my opinion...HE/SHE WILL attack at sometime. Just imagine some dog/human arfaid all his/her life and thought of danger.. That attack may kill somebody that the dog/human liked and was in the way at the time..
I could be wrong but I do not think so... All animals only put up with so much.. We humans are also animals..

My daughter has a pit bull (post #155496, reply #10 of 10)
My daughter has a pit bull that is the friendliest, and most affectionate dog I know. Her boyfriend has a sibling of her dog who is vicious. All in the way you raise them. Our vet says he has less problems and concerns about aggressive pit bulls than chows and shr-peis.
