I bought a bunch of these boards - 10" wide by 16' long. I thought they were Teak, but am having my doubts. I tried planing one, but couldn't get any clean shavings. It is very hard. The boards I got are both quarter sawn and flat sawn.

teak or not to be teak that is the question. (post #169489, reply #2 of 4)
If you have planed one board and it is teak, (do you have HSS knifes on your plainer.) If so the knifes will be dull now if using HSS by just surfacing one board as teak has silica in the wood. If you have carbide then that is not a good test. The next test if it is teak, would be to try sanding the surface using 150 or 220 and if the paper loads up it could be teak. Teak also has a very pronounce odor.

Looks like ipe to me too, I've only used it once and the dust really irritated my sinuses.
