Metal insert for a tea light holder

chaplainbob's picture

Maybe someone can help me out with one. Last month I bought a small tea light holder in a gift shop (in Ireland) with the idea of making some myself as gifts. The tea light sits in a metal insert in the turned holder. I've looked high and low on the web and haven't found the metal insert anywhere so far. I even contacted the guy in Ireland who made the holder; he says he gets them from another guy in Ireland, who in turn gets them from a company in Denmark, which sells only a minimum lot for 1500 euros. (!) I've attached two photos of the tea light holder to give you an idea. Any suggestions?

You might go to a cook store and look for these types of things :

http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-Sa...

http://www.amazon.com/Set-of-4-Porcelain...

They have some that are quite small.  I use the heck out of them for all sorts of projects.

I just call them "nut cups".  I have some here at home that are metal and have more vertical sides than the one I posted a link to.  More on the order of the porcelain ones but with a roundish bottom.

Thanks, Roc, the nut cups are closer to what I'm looking for and definitely reasonable. Am curious what other uses you find for them...?

My uses : (post #169338, reply #3 of 6)

  • Organizing parts when I must put away a project in a hurry to work on something else.  I am a mechanic first ( rather a piss pore wood worker ).
  • Experimenting with finishes; can make up small quantities without having to stock up on a bunch of little jars.
  • Able to make up a very small batch of hot glue and heat it for small projects.
  • Mixing small quantities of paint; the white comes in handy for judging the color.
  • Cooking; I am even a worse cook than I am a woodworker.  If I don't have a recipe and follow it meticulously to the letter I can't even make toast.  I get out all the ingredients and measure it into individual cups before I start to "cook".  Some times it even tastes good when I am done.  If I don't do this I tend to add three table spoons of salt and three half teaspoons of baking powder for instance.  That is never a good ratio.  Well it slows me down enough to make me pay attention and if I spill it while measuring the spill doesn't fall into the mix.
  • I put nuts and treats in them and then eat the treats.  :    )

All of which reminds me of (post #169338, reply #4 of 6)

All of which reminds me of one thing I find so satisfying about making stuff -- organizing and working out a process! Have a good Thanksgiving, my friend.
