Gluing up a split turning

I've read several posts on how to do a split turning, which answered my question on the "how to", but what I've read has been about splitting to achieve two halves.  What I want is a 3/4 turned spindle for the corner of a piece and I'm  stumped as to how to get a good glue surface once split and the paper has been removed.  I see how a 1/2 split can be cleaned up, but not the inside of a 3/4 split.  Any suggestions?
