Wormy Chestnut Table
Found a couple old barn rafters. Turned out to be Chestnut! Resawn into some boards I could use. I also had a couple skid runners to resaw, one of white oak, the other was poplar. I made a simple little table out of one of the rafters, with the aprons made from the resawn white oak. Corner blocks are from the poplar resawing.

Nontypical wormy Chestnut (post #167931, reply #1 of 5)
Thats a new look for wormy Chestnut to me. I would suspect Powder Post Beetle tracks, especially when it came out of an old barn. But still impressive.

I'm with you. I would like to see a close up of the top. It looks like powder post beetle tracks in maple. Chestnut will look like red oak without the medulary rays.

I used a second one of those (post #167931, reply #3 of 5)
I used a second one of those rafters to make a small coffee table. This one has a single coat of varnish on it, right now. The legs are pine, but the rest came from that rafter. Maybe one could "zoom" the pictures a bit....

Really looks like maple, (post #167931, reply #4 of 5)
Really looks like maple, possibly poplar or some other species with grain structure like maple. It looks like a closed grain wood and shows some figure in some of the boards. Chestnut will very rarely show any figure, let alone that much, and chestnut is also an open grained wood like oak and ash. In fact it looks most like ash in grain pattern but most like oak in color.
At any rate that is some very wormy "stuff" and should look pretty cool when finished.

close ups of the top? (post #167931, reply #5 of 5)
Here are a couple of them ( I hope) Seems to have a bit of curly figure to it as well. All I have left is ONE 1 x 6x 2' pieces and a few scraps. Note: these pictures are after a second coat of Poly.
