Using up some offcuts
I'm about half way through making an oak settle (a commission) and was a bit challenged by the number of offcuts of VERY nice oak. I could not bear to burn them and had no more space to store them, so.... took a few hours off and made this little corner table to use as a plant stand.
When photographed, it was sanded ready for finish, but there is too much dust in the workshop at present to contemplate any finishing, so it will have to wait.
There are of course, lots more offcuts!
Cheers
PS : can anyone tell me why there are html format characters all over this message when I view it?
Cheers

chataigner,
very elegant use of scraps! i especially like how you made the legs a bit thicker where the curved apron meets them. thanks for posting and welcome to knots.

Good thinking (post #158796, reply #2 of 10)
Very nice looking. Did you laminate the front apron, steam bend or use a solid piece?

Lamination or solid? (post #158796, reply #3 of 10)
I'm not set up for steam bending, so it was a choice of lamination or solid and since I had some matching oak from the same log that was thick enough, I opted for solid.
Have not got around to a finish yet, which will be the weak link in a solid component, so I'll post a comment when I find out how well it finishes. Probably next week.
Cheers

Chatainger,
A demain,
Mel

Merci, vous êtes très gentil! (post #158796, reply #5 of 10)
Quelle surprise!

Chataigner,
Where are you located? I have friends who I've visited many times at their house near the Lot river, between Cahors and Figeac. Anywhere near there?

Location (post #158796, reply #8 of 10)
I'm in Jumilhac-le-Grand, which is in the north east of Dordogne. Not so far from Cahors, but not really a one day round trip.
As it happens, one of my jobs is the creation and maintenance of the Jumilhac municipal www site, so if you are interested in more info, go to :

Chataigner,

I've been looking into getting myself into making <a href="http://www.woodsignaturecreations.com">custom wood furniture</a> and I have to say I love your stuff. Also, I don't see any html characters so I think you're fine.
