Stove top Storage Tray
First of three trays. Wood is from a pile of old boards from a garage tear down. All were planed downto 4/4 size. Looks like QSWO was in the edge pieces ( old rafters), while a Cherry of some sort (old Joist) makes up the field. A raised lip along the front edge, to keep things from sliding off when the tray is moved. This is storage for when the stove is NOTin use.

When you say "not it use" I (post #169182, reply #1 of 2)
When you say "not it use" I hope you mean disconnected or locked out, and not that the elements are not being used.
That concept violates our local codes.
Even if the stove is not hot, lots of new stoves have front controls that can be activated accidentally by kids, or even by tradesmen working near them (ask me how I know!!!). Wood on top of any element is an accident waiting to happen.
What about an older gas stove with a pilot light???? and someone putting an "oil" finish on this "clever idea". Betcha the white dog didn't talk to his insrance agent before he started requesting orders!!!!! They freak out over folks making chairs....betcha product liability just ain't been discussed yet!
I'll give this idea two big thumbs down. It ain't rational, it ain't safe. And although its concievable that somebody has an extra disconnected stove in their ktchen, it ain't likely. Although Bro in philly just told me a whack of folks in Conn are still without power.
Thats all I got to say about that!

To each his own (post #169182, reply #2 of 2)
Tray has been in use for a couple months now. IF someone wants to use the stove, they are required to move the tray off the stove top. This is for a non-gas stove. There are now three of these things out and about. The stove mine sits on has the controls in the back. These also are good at protect the newer glass/ceramic stovetops.
Of course there are some idiots out there that can't see something sitting on a stove, before they start to use the stove to burn whatever they call "food".
