Sharpening Station

snapperhead's picture

I had an extra piece of granite from local builder from a kitchen sink cut out and was tired of getting water on my workbench.  So I decided to design and build a dedicated stand up sharpening station.

I have all my stones, jigs and misc tools close by so I can sharpen quickly.

No need to worry about getting the surface wet and I put a couple coats of waterlox and wax finish on the cherry.

All the drawers and case work is hand cut dovetails.

My wife thinks it doesn't belong in the work shop.

thanks for looking.  Chris

I can see that as a very nice kitchen work station,  your wife is right ;-)

Granite is very good for rolling out pie crusts

Thanks for posting you gave me the incentive to make one for myself. Right now I have the marble slab on 4x4s screwed together.

What are the other woods besides the cherry?

My wife would have already moved it inside.

Thanks for your comments. The accent woods are tiger maple. I was looking for a nice contrast. Chris

Wow ! (post #161877, reply #6 of 8)

And I was told that mine was overkill.  The big piece of granite was the cutout for my Jenair 6 burner.  You should submit your pix to "Fine Sharpening" magazine.  Nice job.
