The oak settle I've been working on on and off for some weeks is finally ready to deliver.

I was particularly pleased with this qtr sawn panel.

Very pretty!  Could we ask what finish you used?

Have a great day.. Life is wonderful even if you are having a bad day!

settle - the finish (post #159131, reply #2 of 5)

The finish was water based stain, then a grain filler, which was given a light sanding to 400 grit, then followed by carnauba wax buffed by hand.  Surprisingly hard work over such a large area.

The floating panels were pre-finished before assembly, including the wax, to avoid unfinished portions possibly becoming visible if they moved.

Not my style but cleanly and (post #159131, reply #3 of 5)

Not my style but cleanly and well-executed.  Was there a reason for a wax top coat rather than something fmore substantial for a piece that will be used alot?

Finish (post #159131, reply #5 of 5)

Sorry to be so slow replying, had not spotted the message....

Reason for wax - customer asked for it!  I think because it is easily repaired/refinished.

I certainly did not argue as I tend to use little else myself.

Cheers
