And wind up with a kitchen Island?     An island that will get paint and contact paper covering it?   Yep, that is what the "Boss" wants.   Legs were resawn from a 2x4, and are 34" leg.     Top is a pre-glued up panel from Menards and is 16" wide, by 36" long.   Spindles were sawn from a 1x4, and are 1" wide, by 3/4" thick, with a bevel on each end.   Bottom shelf is another panel from Menards, and was 12" wide by 36" long, before being cut to fit.    Mortises and tenon joinery for the legs and aprons.    Corner glue blocks secure the top to the base. 

 

Parts list:  1 panel@ 1x16x36 @ $7.95,   1 panel@1x12x36 @ $5.95,   1 2x4x8' @ $1.98,    3  1x4x8' @$1.88,   i package of 1" drywall screws @ $1.96.      6 hours of shop time.

Great price for an island, of course you have not factored in your time and the gazzilion dollars you hav eon equipment,..... :-)
