Derek:
Nicely done! It makes you wonder what was in the mind of the previous owner who butchered that little plane in the first place. The answer to your question is no, I propably would have considered the plane a lost cause had it fallen into my hands.

Hi Derek, I would have to say (post #147961, reply #6 of 9)
Hi Derek, I would have to say no to the question. My metal working skills are a bit lacking (read nonexistent!!), but I see now I don’t need them, as should I find such a piece, I will happily send it to you, and let that little tool torment you in to giving it new life!. Wonderful job I hope you enjoy it, a fine addition to your shop. garyowen

I am afraid I have to (post #147961, reply #9 of 9)
I am afraid I have to confess... In my previous life as servant boy in the Monestary I was given the task to fix this very plane. Alas you can see my handy wurk left something to be desired. It must be noted that I was thrown to the wolves and tossed from the Monestary, promising never to attempt such a repair again.
Which is why I would send it someone more worthy for repair, and spare it's fait again in this life.
