For $6, how could you possibly pass? How thick is the saw? I would clean it, sharpen it, and put it to work. That will tell you what you have more than anything.

I really love old tools.

She measures up @ .026(blade) (post #144976, reply #2 of 8)

She measures up @ .026(blade) Set is .040 across the teeth so that's .007 clearance on each side of the blade. No pitting or rust. Just age. The bluing is about 20% on the back and the etching on the blade is pretty crisp. Now I have two back saws. Thinking of sharpening up the older brass backed Pratt to a ripper and the Lakeside to a crosscut. Now all I have to find is a 4"XXslim file. No jointing will be necessary, as it is pretty flat and very straight.
Any suggestions out there on a good set for dove tails??

Sure is frustrating! I have a much older Pratt & Co. Buffalo back saw with a brass back and found out about it.
What's really amazing is just how many manufacturing Co's this Country has lost over the last 150+ years. Other than importing some raw materials, the good old USA was pretty self sufficient. Not much you can purchase today that isn't made in China

The Lakeside Saw you have may be 100yrs. old.  There was a Lakeside tool in Chicago at that time that made quality saws.  Montgomery Ward was also based in Chicago, and it probably bought the company or just the name at some point, since the line of tools they carried was called Lakeside.
