I'm just about to finish a cherry chest of drawers, and in thinking about options, noticed that Christian Becksvoort indicated in an article that he uses Danish oil, followed by two coats of a varnish oil-spar varnish mixture, to both the exterior and interior, including the drawer interiors and sides. I would be concerned over lingering odor in the interior, but I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who has used this approach, rather than leaving the interior and drawer interiors free of finish, or using shellac alone. Does this approach adequately avoid the odor problem?
