Hi: I'm building the Simple, Sturdy Workbench as seen in the Season 1 or 2. I've watched the videos but, I have a question on the plans. On the first page is the diagram of dementions. On the side view, the bottom hole for the side strechers doesn't make sense. The right side calls for 9 3/16 and the left calls for 9". I'm confused! Can anyone help me? It should be one or the other....I think. I'm new to woodworking. This is my first project. Need a bench! Thank you!

Getting Sterted workbench (post #156911, reply #1 of 1)
Hi, Shopper3128--
Glad you watched the videos. Sorry for my delay in answering.
Those long bolts pass completely through the legs and then travel in slots in the stretchers all the way across to the opposite leg. Therefore the bolt holes must be offset from each other so the bolts don't run into each other inside the legs. If you look down at the next page, at the cross sections of the stretchers, you will see that the stretchers hide the bottom bolt in different ways. One has its bottom slot on the very bottom of the stretcher, and the other has its slot along the bottom inside edge.
Bottom line: Follow the dimensions, and everything will turn out OK. Hope this makes sense.
