Butcher Block Work Bench Top
Ring made some astute comments concerning a butcher block Work Bench Top. I was thinking that the bottom of the bench would be several chests of drawers ganged together. Their sides would be birch plywood doubled up instead of legs. The top could be flattened with a router sled on rails. The top might be massive enough that it won't have to be fastened to the botttom, or if necessary slotted fasteners for seasonal movement. Beside denting, another advantage of the butcher top is the blocks of wood could be made inexpensively from seasoned fire wood. I prevously made a 10' trestle table from a large ash tree that went down in a storm. JeffPop
