I'm in Raynham. I was also looking for a local club before but couldn't find any real close. I also inquired about starting one but was unsure what was involved and such.

I think we would need to just round up a few interested folks and show up to discuss it. It would be great to have someone with a comprehensive shop to hold meetings...or spread it around. I don't have much of a shop but what the heck that could be a subject all by itself.

Maybe we could contact local suppliers and see if they might host some events.

Off the top of my head I don't know of any woodworking stores around. There is Beaver woodworking in Brockton but I have never seen any area in there that could even be considered. I don't have a full shop, small 11X16 and kinda full. I have several old machines. Some when I have time need some refurb. and just set up.

Lol....that big?...Mines even smaller...10" x 12" but I usually set up outside.

I wonder if any of the voc techs would consider hosting a club....students could join too! It might be worth looking at.

That may be an option, just off the top of my head I would think they might have some kinda liability issue or having to pay someone to be there at night. May be worth a shot  if there is enough interest.

What kind of things do you make? What machines do you have? If you want you can e-mail me @ pbwoodworks@yahoo.com.

Hi Paul,

Sorry, somehow I missed your post. I've made a lot of outdoor site stuff...decks, gates, arbors, and the like. I've done extensive home renovations. More recently I've started doing more fine woodworking...or trying to anyway. I'm somewhat limited by my tools. I'm slowly acquiring both better power tools and hand tools. I'm currently making a Morris inspired chair.

I just bought a new band saw...Grizzly G0555...so far I really like it. I have a cheap craftsman contractors table saw. The usual collection of small power tools and a few nice old hand tools I like to use. An old lathe that I need to do some work on.

How about you?

Hi Bob,

I am doing  ongoing  home renovations. My wife and I just built an addition onto our house. 26' X 36' 2 car garage and rooms above. Still finishing small stuff.

I haven't done any furniture yet but have built boxes, trays, cutting boards. I've been doing alot of picture frames lately for people ( extra money to buy new toys ). I also do the matting for the pictures.

I got to claim about a 11' X 16' area in the garage for a workshop. I have a good assortment of tools. I have the same bandsaw as you. So far so good. I have an older craftsman/ kingsealy lathe, walker turner drill press and other craftsman ( older ) jointer and tablesaw. Bought from my 90yo neighbor who started me making things.  My e-mail is pbwoodworks@yahoo.com . I wish I was closer to the cape. The Cape Harwoods looks like a good place for a club setup. It would take me about an hour each way to go.

woodworking association (post #123893, reply #15 of 15)

if you look at woodworking association you will see me talking about the boston finewoodworking association there are only a few of us but we are trying to grow the group.I have a basement shop I have been building furniture in and the group has been meeting there the second wed. of each month anyone interested can contact me by e-mail at rogerjohnson2@lycos.com

I have been working on different pieces of furniture that I brought to the finefurnishing show in Providence R.I. and am still looking for ways to show my work to the public.I am aware of all the pitfalls in woodworking. The most chalenging thing I have found is making people understand the difference between what I do and what they are buying at potterybarn or any retail store.I have made it my mission to educate the general public in what makes a quality piece of furniture starting with the joinery and the whole proccess in general.I am still advertising in custommade.com under Johnson's Woodworking

I noticed your interest in starting a club.
We have space in Falmouth ( 10 min. from bridge )
and would be interested in a disscussion as we are a new hardwood sales business.
As we grow we would like to promote our customers growth as well.

Hello,

It's a small world...I've been meaning to stop in and see you folks. My daughter just bought a house on Brush Hill Circle...I just noticed you about 2-3 months ago. I used to drive Brick Kiln and then went Thom. Flanders. I drive past you a couple times a month.

That would be great. I can think of a few people that might like to join. My son-in-law being one. He's a carpenter by trade...works for Silvia & Silvia.

We'll talk more...the wife is patiently(?) waiting for me to out for dinner.

Regards

Bob Babcock

Hi Phil - I live in Yarmouth Port and have only been doing woodworking for about 7 years.  I have a shop in my basement and have been (crudely) making furniture.  Got my start watching Norm Abrams on the New Yankee Workshop.  Might be interested in joining such a club.

I am a member of a woodturning club ( CNEW) that meets at The craft center In Worcester free of charge on the first Thursday of each month. The members come from western MA NH, RI, CT and eastern MA. The advantage of this spot is they have a full woodworking shop which includes 6 Lathes etc. and we use one to have Demos, and some even come early to do some turning and mentoring. The Center would probably allow a woodworking club hoping some may take a course there some day. Worcester also has a Co-op shop somewhere that could be looked into. Members end up carpooling and probably gets 40 men and women per meeting. Some even sell there products on consignment in the Craft store
